Art through the eyes of
the black sheep
hello everyone!!!
I'm back, but not in the way that I would like to be. first, while this is and will always be my main blog for my art, I have another one that I will be using for class this year. blog post will happen there every Friday. I will try to do post here too, but most likely they will be repeat post of what's on the other blog or nothing as far as writing goes. but there will be updates to the gallery page as my other blog does not have one. updates to this blog will happen on Saturdays. Events will also be posted here, there, and on my face book page. I'm also going to work on getting more videos of the creative process up on this page. I have been gone for a really long time, like this is a new year! anyways there is sooo much coming up so look forward to it. link to other blog: artbynikkia.blogspot.com/

below is the final product of the recreation of the original dress slip. i think it came out pretty good. i will take better pictures after critique today and post them to the gallery. i have also include the list of materials that i used to make the dress and hanger. i think that the recreation was successful because other than the lace it was made using non fabric materials and while the design is mostly the same as the original i did add longer pieces of lace to the front of the dress. my focus for the recreation was how i could transfer the same delicacy and transparency of the original to the recreation.
dress materials: white tissue paper lace hot glue glue gun tape stringed sequence hanger materials: wooden stick gold floral wire silver wire (medium thickness) this is the final project of this semester! and what better way to end the class than with a project that embodies the name of the course, Do Undo Redo (fondly called DUR by the class). for this project we choose an article of clothing and took the seams out. using the pieces we created templates so we could recreate the clothes with a non-fabric material(s). below are photos of the deconstruction and beginning of reconstruction process. this project is inspired by the artist Sarah Sze who did a collection of pink objects as an installation. the list of my 12 items is included below as well as the 12 photos of the arrangements of the objects before they are painted and another 12 of them painted. Inventory list:
paint color: black
most successful: I think that the most successful ones were the items with logos on them (burger king crown, tobacco bottle, tide container, and vitamin bottle) because it takes away the "capitalist meaning" and it leaves them as blank objects that they were before the labels were put on them. least successful: the least successful one was the sun glasses because they were already black, but painting the lenses changes the function of them because now you cant see out of them. how did it impact arrangements?:changing the color of the objects unified them, they are no longer just a group of 12 random things that i found. they have returned to the simplest form, and while looking at some of the arrangements the objects get lost in each other forming one solid black shape. they have gone from being 12 respective objects to 1 whole. first here are some photos from the tea party.(see below) Events Under the Tent day two was as successful as day one, less people came to watch what we were doing (most likely because we weren't screaming and banging on things like during the music session on day one),but we still had a good time. Other than the tea party, there was musical chairs, finger paint/ origami and meditation happening under the tent to day. Events Under the Tent may become a annual thing that we do, so look out for that.
